PE Long Term Plan and Progression Map

PE lessons at Alderbrook follow the National Curriculum. We are lucky enough to have a swimming pool onsite and to have the expertise of qualified swimming coaches. The pupils in Reception and Year 1 have the chance to swim throughout the year.

PE sessions are structured to offer all pupils a range of opportunities and the chance to experience different sports throughout their time at Alderbrook. Through these sessions pupils will learn a variety of different skills, which can not only be used during PE lessons, but that can also be applied to life outside of sports lessons.

Alderbrook offers a range of extra-curricular sports clubs after school, that are taught by specialists. These extra training sessions allow the pupils to engage in a wide variety of sports. Many of the schools specialist coaches are closely involved with the development of the sports programme within the school. Throughout the year, we offer ballet, street dance,Ballet hockey, football, multi-sports, fitness, netball, cricket and athletics.  To provide these sporting activities for the children, we vary the clubs that are available over the year These clubs are open to any pupil, therefore providing opportunities for everyone to benefit fully from our extensive games provision.

We believe that all our pupils should have the opportunity to experience a range of different sports, played in a competitive, encouraging atmosphere. The pupils who wish to take up the challenge, have the opportunity to attend Wandsworth’s inter-school tournaments to show case their talents. These tournaments also provide the pupils with the chance to play competitive team games against other local schools.

Through all of these extra-curricular activities we aim to develop good sportsmanship and to promote healthier lifestyles through physical activity.
