Head Teacher's welcome
Welcome to Alderbrook! There is a special feel to Alderbrook that is noticeable from the moment you step through the gates. Children sit at the heart of all we do; we strive every day to make a difference to each and every member of the school’s community, giving the children the tools they will need to be successful in life. The community is diverse and welcoming, actively seeking to integrate new families and staff into the fold, making all feel supported.
I am now in my fourth year as Head Teacher at Alderbrook and have seen the landscape of teaching (along with the rest of the world) changed dramatically by the global pandemic we have been facing. Who would have thought that the uncertainties that began two years ago would still be on-going now? What we have seen throughout this is the role that schools and education play in the world and the importance of high-quality education.
During the last two years of constant change I have felt humbled by the determination and commitment of staff at Alderbrook, who rolled with the punches, keeping a cool head and trying to maintain a level of ‘normality’ so that the children can feel safe and secure in their community. I have also been amazed at the resilience the children have shown during the pandemic, accepting and adapting to the changes and challenges they have faced. The support and gratitude from the parents and carers has been truly heart-warming and has kept us going during tough times, for which we are very grateful for and further evidence of the wonderful community we have here at Alderbrook.
I believe in people and the power of learning. Creating a curriculum that will teach children how to become positive members of the ever-changing global community we live in is of paramount importance. The world is changing at a rapid pace; someone starting out in the workforce today is likely to have seven different careers before retirement, many of the jobs the children of today will be doing don’t even exist yet. Ensuring that children have the skills and mindset to navigate their futures is the basis all of our learning at Alderbrook.
We understand the importance of working with families and welcome the views of parents. If you are new to the school, please do book onto the one of my fortnightly tours and if you are already a member of our community then come along to one of my fortnightly Head Teacher’s coffee mornings for an opportunity to chat with myself and other families.
