Religious Education
RE Intent Statement
At Alderbrook Primary School, our RE curriculum provides our children with knowledge about different religions and world views to help them think about how and why we live our lives. It offers insights into the diverse beliefs and opinions held by people in our local community today. We encourage children to think about the importance of beliefs and values in any society and to develop their own thoughts. Within our curriculum we have embedded five big ideas; culture, respect, morality, spirituality, beliefs. We give our children opportunities to engage in the big questions of life such as how the world began and what happens when we die. Our curriculum provides children with tools to reflect on their own religious background as well as an opportunity to learn about other peoples’ religions and world views.

Alderbrook RE Curriculum
Religious Education is taught in all UK schools and each Local Authority has a body called SACRE which agrees what RE is taught in schools. There are guidelines and the contents cover all major religions.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from part of or all religious education. If children are withdrawn from religious education, schools have a duty to supervise them though not to provide additional teaching
